Coffee By Di Bella: Where every outlet breaks even within 6 months
When Rahul Leekha introduced Coffee By Di Bella in India in 2009, he imported a premium batch of coffee beans from Australia to cater to the evolved tastes of Indians. However, the customer feedback was that the flavor was too mild, despite it being amongst the best blends in Australia. This gave him an important insight – what works in Brisbane, where Philips Di Bella launched the café chain in 2002, would not necessarily work in the country, since each market is different.
Rahul used this perceptiveness to entrench Coffee By Di Bella as a full-service coffee chain with 20 outlets in Mumbai, with six in the offing. He hopes to establish 40 outlets in the city before expanding operations to Delhi NCR and Bangalore, all of which will be company-operated. With an average footfall of 300 customers on weekdays and 450 on weekends per outlet, selling around 15,000 coffee cups a week, the coffee chain business is brewing good business.
